Coaches have the Best Lines
The Pittsburgh Steelers started their 2009 season as defending Super Bowl champions. During their first preseason game, Suzy Kolber of ESPN asked coach Mike Tomlin how the Steelers were going to protect their championship status and possibly return to "big game" this season. Coach Tomlin's answer was priceless.
Simply put "We don't focus on what we're capable of doing, we just focus on doing it". Straight forward, no bologna, no spin, an actual direct reply.
So many companies focus so much on what the journey is going to require that they don't focus on getting to the destination. Focus on doing it, and if you're not sure how, call us!
Another famous championship coach had these two statements which are in my office in San Jose.
"Thank you for giving me your very best" and "Play your game". Who's the coach...? Herb Brooks, Head Coach of the 1980 US Olympic Gold Medal Hockey Team.
Not bad role models to follow.
